“Stumbling outside in the grey morning light I came across a steep grassy slope, which I decided to descend as opposed to walking 2 minutes out of the way via a safe path. I don’t remember much about the exact time at which I snapped my leg, but I recall slipping weirdly, falling, and hearing a massive crack.”
Yes I have broken my leg. Idiotically you’ll be glad to know. After a lovely week holidaying on the Isle of Man and learning to scuba dive, I managed to top it off by fracturing my tibia, as you can see.
Spending all summer on the sofa is swings and roundabouts. Sure, I’ll miss my bike, my Rome marathon ambition in March is postponed for a year, and my new found love for diving will have to wait for 3 months. I do however get to catch up on my reading, music, and I’ll have a lot of time to devote to this new site of mine, meaning I’ll get to exercise another of my favourite things to do: designing.
So my loyal reader, you may enjoy a summer full of designed posts, and also a broken leg diary (soon) if you fancy a giggle.

Broken Leg
Unlucky, but I think I can out-idiotic it….I managed to break my leg and dislocate my ankle whilst descending an inflatable slide during an It’s a Knockout competition. Real horror show for the kids watching at the bottom!
If it’s any consolation, the feeling when they finally take off the cast and rub down your leg is unsurpassable.

Haha - nice. Did you slide out the bottom screaming?
I’m already looking forward to getting this cast off, god knows how I’ll feel in 6 weeks time.

No, I managed to style it out as best as possible. Don’t know how yours went, but I don’t remember any pain at all (suspect I have Captain Shock to thank for that). Though that was made up for when they took the staples out of my leg post-surgery, due to one of them getting bent. Nearly spewed all over the nurse.

Ooooh, nasty buddy! I broke mine when I was ten years old. It was a comedic and idiotic break. I did it whilst at a roller-disco at the local sports centre. Having donned the hire boots, some classic ‘rainbow-racers’, I had just built up a bit of speed when someone spilled coke on the floor. Muggins here didn’t spot it, slipped on the coke and whilst going to the floor planted a boot truck on my shin. Ouchy! It caused a cork-screw fracture lasting 8 weeks in plaster from toe to arse. You have some fun times ahead, get yourself a knitting needle to itch your leg and get ready for some serious skinny leg muscle wastage. It is all character building.
Get well and able soon.

@Kevin, sounds nasty mate. Fortunately I had an operation last week, and I’ve been out of my cast for 9 days - it’s bliss!
Although I do have a metal rod in my bone, from knee to ankle, I am able to start physio already, and have been walking around the house with crutches.
I was very closing to buying a knitting needle though; thanks for your comment.

Sounds bionic. Did you by any chance catch Dragons Den tonight? If not try and watch it on Sunday before Top Gear. There was a young lady on there with a product designed originally for rowing, but it works well with crutches. It is a grip which stretches the fingers out more, is cushioned with a bit of springyness and stops them blisters from forming. I know how harsh those crutches can be. Take care of yourself.

Wow man, that doesn’t look fun. I love how you do each page like it’s a unique website. You are an amazing designer.

Ouch! I’ve had a shameful giggle over this story between this and simons post….seriously though I hope you fix up good!
I should ward you of motorbikes in advance though - learning to wheelie ruined my leg, shoulder and bike - in front of everyone on the Ron Haslam trackday at Donnington Park!
Great site(s) BTW - inspiring stuff - will be taking the inspiration into my own website rebuild (no ripp-offs - I promise!)
